• [Yoh 6:33] By His Love

  On Passover our Lord preparèd to, With His belovèd twelve, His last supper share. To comfort, and to heal them by His love, He gave His Body and He gave His Blood. He gave them freedom and He gave them life. This by His Love! There in the upper room, He told the twelve, That He must die, thus from hell to save, Our souls held fast by hellish sinful loves, So we all might find homes in Heav’n above. He gave us freedom and He gave us life. This by His Love! John on His holy breast, did rest his head. While Peter cried, “I’m Yours unto death.” Their spirits willing but, their flesh was weak. But when Christ rose, He called them to the feast. He gave them freedom and He gave them life. This by His Love! We too may share with Christ, our unseen Host, The Bread of Love, and the Wine supreme. Our wounded spirits and our sin sick souls, Our Lord’s great healing love will now make whole. He gave us freedom and He gave us life. This by His Love!

  Invited, Lord, by boundless grace, I stand a guest before Thy face; As Host Thou spreadst no common food: Here is Thy body and Thy blood.   An awe-full mystery is here To challenge faith and waken fear: The Savior comes as food divine, Concealed in earthly bread and wine. This world is loveless—but above What wondrous boundlessness of love! The King of Glory stoops to me My spirit’s life and strength to be. In consecrated wine and bread No eye perceives the mystery dread; But Jesus’ words are strong and clear; “My body and My blood are here.” How dull are all the powers of sense Employed on proofs of love immense! The richest food remains unseen, And highest gifts appear—how mean! But here we have no boon on earth, And faith alone discerns its worth. The Word, not sense, must be our guide, And faith assure since sight’s denied. Lord, show us still that Thou art good And grant us evermore this food. Give faith to every wavering soul And make each wounded spirit whole.
